Description

Anne Gillis (also known as Manon Anne Gillis) first appeared in the early 1980s with the privately released, single-sided mini-album Angebiguë (1983), a cold minimal-synth work issued in an extremely small edition for friends only. Long absent from official discographies and excluded from the Archives Box 1983–2005 (Art Into Life, 2015), Angebiguë gradually became a rare and highly sought-after recording, central to understanding Gillis’ early sonic language.

Released by Art Into Life as a vinyl LP, Vhoysee marks Gillis’ long-awaited return to the format, weaving together six new compositions with four re-worked and re-mixed tracks from Angebiguë. The new pieces are constructed as physical, subject-based compositions using minimal sonic elements, while the re-visited early works retain their simple rhythmic foundations and glacial textures. On LP, the dialogue between past and present unfolds with particular clarity, allowing early minimal electronics and contemporary restraint to coexist as a continuous, labyrinthine listening experience. The album was mastered by Jos Smolders and comes with a download code.
