A monumental 4×LP box set, Les Années 1967-1984 gathers 14 of Fernand Vandenbogaerde’s seminal electronic and tape works, composed in the early years of his career.
Les Années 1967–1984 offers a rare window into the singular sonic world of Fernand Vandenbogaerde, a self-taught Belgian experimenter whose work bridges outsider music, minimal electronics, and intimate tape-based exploration. Across these archival recordings, Vandenbogaerde assembles fragile rhythms, raw textures, and poetic micro-gestures, revealing a sound practice both deeply personal and quietly visionary.
A compelling document of an artist operating far from musical conventions, this collection captures the restless curiosity and handmade aesthetic that define Vandenbogaerde’s unique legacy.
Fernand Vandenbogaerde (born 1946) studied science before training in composition with figures such as Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Schaeffer, György Ligeti, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Bruno Maderna. His works combine rigor and timbral exploration: microphones, tape, microtonal scales (notably the Carrillo-influenced harps), and electro-acoustic processes are shaped by the material itself, in his own words.
