Dusa are a pleasant surprise coming straight from Sweden and they breathe cool and fresh air into the lungs of the experimental, neo-folk trend. This is a group of musicians, who in their second release blend field recordings, with acoustic instruments recorded live, tape collages and turntablism. The result is very interesting and reminds me of a dreamy-like soundtrack. This vinyl release is accompanied with fantastic conceptual graphs, as in the sleeve cards and photographs are included. If you add this to the music , you get the feeling of wandering in a charming province of Sweden with plenty of secrets to unveil. The sound collages , the distorted melodies and its rhythmic elements make this release one of the best works we have listen to these days when good and quality releases are hard to find. Russia is a country of rich tradition both in folk music and experimentation. Vapraksila.ink is a label with quite a unique sound that ranges from ambient to idm experimentation. Interesting artworks and weird packages make this label’s releases very attractive.
Analog Concept are Alexei’s project. This cd-r edition includes 10 tracks of similar structures. Ambient mood with laptop produced loops, strange sounds and field recordings that let a space aesthetic to rise from the background. Dance culture is also present and structurally intervening breaks the ice.

Swedish aderlatning records is definitely a special kind of label since each one of its releases is a diamond in the rough. B . Astrom is the same case . This cd-r includes 12 compositions analogically recorded that could also fit in the format of the cassette. Compositions that are probably recorded on a tape recorder are interrupted by speeches and chit chats, a toy piano losing power, early period Isan-ish melodies and tape recorder hiss. A release that flows really nicely with an overall feeling of lo-fi melancholy. This disc is difficult to get a hold on, due to limited copies available, but it really compensates the effort! Charlotta Naas : "S/T"
TAPE 2006 AKA
This cassette only release by the Swedish Charlotta Naas (a member of dusa) proves ones more that simplicity can summarize the essence of music. Her beautiful voice along with acoustic guitar, piano, horns, strings and some disperse electronic effects make a lo-fi art folk masterpiece. The only thing in the overall atmosphere of this release that reminds us that the music was recorded at 2004 is the sound of a mobile phone that was accidentally recorded and was not removed in a gesture of honesty. Everything else is so timeless as the good music that targets straight to human feelings and sensitivity [Νατάσα Β.]

CD-R 2008 DIRTY DEMOS
The new 3inch release by fervent on British label Dirty Demos is more or less a collection of his more well crafted compositions. The first track “nerver 2” is familiar to us by the “deconstructive music” compilation from the more mars team. This is fervent’s approach to deconstruction of sonic composition. The starting melody is broken down to parts that are then reassembled and reconfigured in time. Second track “organ piece for anna” stands out from his debut “conjestion”, a fragile composition that merges cinematic memories, melodies and claustrophobic tendencies in a purely eclectic manner. Last track on this 3” is a new composition that combines in a beautiful way proper instruments as piano, guitars and drums with rhythmic glitch sounds revealing to us an almost natural harmony that make this 3” irresistible. Subliminal recordings is a label from Athens (Greece) that puts together in this compilation 25 tracks by 25 artists that besides Shiverdrain are digital noise oriented. You will find out that the sonic qualities of this comp are pretty extreme or hard to get as noise pounds on your ears from the beginning till the end. But this is the moment for some theoretical questions. How extreme is noise these days? How is noise shocking any more and in what political way? My opinion is that we are on the verge of disorientation. But maybe I am wrong. The followers of this style though will have sonic + collectable interests. [Μάριος Μ]
